Homemade Baby Safe Detergent and Softener
I have always had sensitive skin and it became worse when I was pregnant. It never actually occurred to me that my laundry detergent could be the cause of my allergies and sensitive skin. So I went on a "Pinteresting" mission to find the perfect DIY liquid laundry detergent and softener recipe and whipped up my own through some research. This method is extremely cost effective, environmentally friendly, and perfect for babies & sensitive skin.
Here is what you need:

2. A 2 Gallon Bucket, can be purchased through Amazon.
3. 1/2 cup Washing Soda
4. 1/2 cup Baking Soda
5. 3 1-Gal Glass Jars
6. 1 Gallon Vinegar
7. Essential Oils of your choice
8. Wool Dryer Balls
9. Wooden Spoon to stir things
10. 2 Gallons of H2O
Recipe for Liquid Detergent (Makes 2 Gallons, 1/3 cup per load)
Measure 1/2 cup washing soda and add it to your bucket. Cover with just enough hot water (tap is ok as long as you don't have hard water) to dissolve.
Add1/2 cup baking soda to the mixture. Stir to dissolve.
Fill bucketwith hot water, leaving enough room for the soap. Add 3/4 cup of Castille Soap slowly and stir.
Add essential oils of your choice, if you wish. Split the detergent into jard. For Atlas, we leave his bucket unscented, and put various kinds of essential oils in ours. I normally add 20-30 drops of lavender. I use this brand.
Recipe for Softener (Makes 1 Gallon, Fill up to max line each time)
Pour your distilled vinegar into your gallon bucket. Add essential oils of your choice. And NO, your clothes will NOT smell like vinegar. Baking soda and vinegar neutralize to form water (think back to your 3rd grade volcano project), the end result? Extra clean and soft clothes!
To boost, use wool dryer balls. You can also add essential oil to these. Wool dryer balls prevent static, dry your clothes faster, are all natural, and SAFE!
There you have it! This is 100% chemical free and cleans your clothes extremely well. So far, I have not had any issues with pee/poo, wine, oil, or dirt stains. From time to time, I wash Atlas's whites on sanitary setting with extra hot water and they are always sparkly clean!
